Flowcharts

Flowchart is a diagram that presents processes in a step by step manner. Different shapes convey different meaning. Boxes represent steps; diamonds represent decisions and circles indicate continuation. These shapes are connected by arrows showing directions on which steps one action leads.

Flowcharts are very effective as a visual aid for instructions or procedures because it is very simple. It is also effective because flowcharts use communicate graphically. What I mean with communicating graphically is that flowcharts use more pictures than words. There are word instructions but it is the graphics that put sense to those instructions.

With proper utilization of flowcharts, it could be a very powerful tool especially for presentations. It can make the presentation easier to understand and it can save a lot of time in the part of the presentor. It can also avoid the confusion from too much words used and more importantly it is easier to remember .

web 2.0 and social media

The previous group reported about web 2.0 and focfocusing in social networking sites which is very prevalent in the world wide web community. The group also reported about social media which is being reshaped by the growing accessibility of internet.

Web 2.0 is the term than clusters web applications that facilitate interactive information sharing, user centered design, interoperability, user centered design, and collaboration on the web. In a nutshell, web 2.0 is a group of web applications that enable users to interact through collaboration and information sharing with other users.

A very obvious example of a web application that allows such thing is what we called social networking sites. We all know what social networking sites are. The fact that you're reading this blog means you are familliar to these things. Social networking sites enable people to connect to other people. Blogs, tweets, statuses, updates, or whatever name depending on the site the person is tells other people what he/she wants to say about what's going on in his/her life or other people's lives (people sometimes do this). they also share files, photos, videos, articles, etc. Some networking sites uses application games where people playing a game interact in the game. The most common social networking sites is facebook. The company reported that they have 400 million active users. This is about 23 % of the 1,734,000,000 people who has access to internet (http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm).

Social media is defined as a form of mass media that is designed to be dessiminated through social interaction; created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques like the internet. Social media has been successful in reshaping the way information sharing is done.

Information sharing was revolutionized by the introduction of the internet. The world wide web is a vast library of resources. From dictionary to encyclopedia; from articles and journals to books downloadable in pdf format, information sharing has become very easy. Also, information is democratized. Democratization refers to information being produced/edited by the users.

The internet, having 1.7 billion users, is a good ground for marketing. The audience is vast and market expands with the extension of geographic boundaries. Even before the campaign period had started, facebook has been plagued by different fan page of candidates. It is also a good place to advertise because it's free.

Indeed, internet has changed us in more ways than one. Web 2.0 is just one of those things. But this is just the start and internet is relatively young. I believe it hasn't reach its peak yet and more innovations will come especially in web 2.0 and social media.
